Printed "University" Patterned Whiteware Rim and Body Sherds

(1830 - 1841)

Blue transfer-printed whiteware body and rim sherds with a Romantic landscape pattern called "University" manufactured by the John Ridgway pottery of Hanley, Staffordshire, England, sometime between 1830 to 1841 when the pottery was active. The pattern features a long university-type building with a domed tower and cross, balustrades (a decorative gate, in this instance), and the figures of two students in the foreground. The body sherd is paneled suggesting a hollowware form.
