Underglaze Painted and Gilded Chinese Porcelain Rim Sherd

(1760 - 1800)

One small Chinese export porcelain rim sherd from a saucer, dish or shallow bowl. The sherd is decorated with underglaze painted blue fish roe along the edge of the rim, and a butterfly diaper beneath. Between the fish roe and butterfly, there are two raised, molded lines that are highlighted in gold gilt. Some of the gilding has worn away. The rim appears to have a slight scallop, although it can not be determined the exact pattern due to the size of the sherd.
