Stamped Redware Body Sherd

(18th to Mid-19th Century)

One redware body sherd with an impressed stamp on the exterior bearing the letter "C", as well as a possible finger impression on the unglazed interior. Redware vessels were often produced by independent rural pottery workshops located near clay sources. The thick paste and the uneven mottled brown and green toned glaze suggests that its purpose may have been a utilitarian storage vessel.
