North American Salt-Glazed Stoneware Body Sherd

Two salt-glazed stoneware body sherds that were likely part of a substantial storage vessel more than 20 cm tall with a base diameter of approximately 27 cm (or about 10.6 inches). The vessel has a salt-glaze exterior and an Albany-type slip interior. The salt-glaze technique is well distributed and glossy with an even distribution of orange-peel effect. The overall form of the vessel was relatively straight sided; the main body sherd shows slight convex shaping at its top, perhaps to accommodate a handle. A small sherd that might have been part of the vessel, possibly from the shoulder or spout, shows rilled, incised band decoration.
