Redware Cookpot Handle and Rim Sherd

(17th Century)

One handle and rim sherd from a large redware cookpot. The thick handle is pinched and is attached level with the rim. There is a colorless lead glaze covering both the vessel's interior and exterior surfaces. There is a fragment of mortar adhered to the handle and much of the sherd is heavily worn. The vessel is likely Dutch or American in origin. Possibly a "kookpotten" or "kookpot/grape" and manufactured locally.
