Painted Tin-Glazed Earthenware Tile Sherd

(1600 - 1800)

Heavily burnt, buff pasted tin glazed refined earthenware tile sherd with thick white glaze and a cobalt blue painted decoration on one surface. The pattern is damaged beyond recognition from the fire damage, except for the lettering "AR" adjacent to the bottom edge of the tile. The "AR" may stand for Anne Regina, or Queen Anne of Great Britain (1665-1714). The glaze has worn off on the face. The reverse side is unglazed. Consists of two sherds that mend but are not mended.
