Redware Floor Tile

(17th Century)

One intact redware floor tile with four edges. The body is bright red and has mortar attached to the back and parts of the sides. The face is coated with a buff slip covered with a green lead glaze. There also is some dripped green glaze on the edges of the tile. Likely Dutch in origin and similar to tiles seen in Dutch 17th century paintings. This tile is a 5 1/4 inch. square and 7/8 inches thick.
