Rouletted Nottingham-Type Tankard

(1700 - 1810)

Fourteen body and rim sherds from a Nottingham-type stoneware tankard. The body is dark gray/brown in color and has two rouletted bands around the exterior surface. There is a thin layer of white slip beneath the lustrous, brown slipped interior and exterior surfaces. There is one handle terminal present on the body located just below the plain, slightly rounded rim. The body has a rouletted band approximately 0.75 inches below the rim consisting of vertical lines less than half an inch long and an additional band of rouletting lower on the body. The rim measures to 4 inches in diameter. The vessel mends in three sections with one unmending sherd. All sections are likely from the same vessel. This vessel is cross-mended between contexts.
