New York made salt-glazed stoneware food-storage jar made by the pottery of John Remmy III in Manhattan circa 1800–1813/1820. The jar is stamped with three rows of text reading: "J. Remmey / Manhattan-Wells / New-York." Manhattan Wells refers to the post-1800 waterworks of the Manhattan Water Company at the corner of Reade and Centre Streets (Janowitz 2008).
