One mended Chinese porcelain plate with a Canton style pavilion landscape pattern painted under the glaze in blue. The rim has a "rain cloud" border, and the interior face of the vessel is decorated with pagodas, a boat, mountains and a bridge, which are typical decorations for a Canton "pavilion landscape." This vessel is one of two identical plates from the same Van Cortandt site. The vessel is from the fourth period of Canton-style manufacturing, produced between 1785 and 1853. Imported from China, these dishes were very popular and abundant in New York at the time.
