Redware Cookpot Handle and Rim Sherd

(17th Century)

One rim and partial handle sherd from a redware cookpot. The handle top rises above the rim surface and is slightly pinched. The body is bright red/orange and has a brown core. The texture of the body is very sandy. Both the interior and exterior are covered with a brown glaze that has a pea-green-colored tint, although the color is not quite green/ginger-colored. There is some wear along the edge of the handle and some of the glaze has worn off. The vessel is likely Dutch or American in origin. Possibly a "kookpotten" or "kookpot/grape" and manufactured locally.
