Lead Glazed Redware Cookpot

(17th Century)

Four mended handle, rim and large body sherds from a bulbous redware cookpot. The large round handle has a slightly pinched top and a thumb-print depressed base. The lead glaze is colorless or brown and is on both the interior and exterior of the cookpot. Portions of the glaze are missing and have flaked off. The vessel is likely Dutch or American in origin. Possibly a "kookpotten" or "kookpot/grape" and manufactured locally.
