Combed North Midlands/Staffordshire-Type Slipware Body and Rim Sherd

(1660 - 1720s)

One buff bodied North Midlands/Staffordshire Slipware body sherd with an everted, slightly rounded rim. Likely part of a hollowware vessel such as a chamber pot or bowl. The sherd is coated on both surfaces with a white slip that appears yellow under a lead glaze. The exterior is decorated with two lines of large scale combed red slip that appear brown under the glaze. The rim diameter is approximately 12 cm.
