Redware Cookpot

(17th Century)

One mended, bulbous redware cookpot comprised of rim, body, and base sherds with a foot. One intact, pinched handle is attached to part of the body. There is a clear lead glaze coating the vessel's interior and exterior surfaces. Likely Dutch or American in origin. See Gabriel Metsu's painting of a "Sick Child" (1664) for an example of what this complete vessel may have looked like. The rim diameter is approximately 5 1/4 inches and the height is 4 1/4 inches.
