Testing in a portion of the former grounds of Sailors' Snug Harbor found significant archaeological resources in the vicinity of the Matron's Cottage. Sailors' Snug Harbor served aged and sick seaman from 1833-1976 as one of the first retirement homes in the United States. The archaeological collection is within the NYC Archaeological Repository.
