Lot 10* Front Portion, Sand and Sandy Silt Below Cobble Floor (624.767)

(ca. 1690-1750 )

In Test Cuts AA and AC, excavated in the front portion of Lot 10* within the Robert Livingston House footprint, various sand and sandy silt deposits were found below the cobble floor. In Test Cut AA, the deposit consisted of a red/brown and yellow/brown sand beneath the red sand bedding for the cobble floor. In Test Cut AC, a brown sandy silt was found beneath the cobble floor. However, these deposits were overlain in part by the intrusive pit dug for installation of the pillar support. Therefore, all of this material may not have been associated with the construction of the cobble floor. This context (Cat# 767: Lot 10*, Test Cut AA, Stratum 11, Level a) consists of aritfacts found in the sand and sandy silt matrix below the cobble floor of the Robert Livingston House. For more information about this context, please see pages 124-129 of the 7 Hanover Square site report.
