This context consists of artifacts from the “BS” landfill deposit, a 17th-century greenish-brown sandy silt landfill stratum located in the front portion of Lot 10*. The data suggest that the landfill on Lot 10* may have been deposited in several distinct episodes. The “BS” deposit was located below stratum GS1 in Test Cuts K, AA, AB and AC and was underlain by deposit GBS in Test Cuts K and AA. In Test cuts AB and AC, landfill deposit GS2 was encountered below landfill stratum BS.
This context (Catalog #267: Lot 10*, Test Cut K, Strat 7, Level a) is one of multiple “BS” landfill deposits excavated in the front portion of Lot 10*. A more detailed description of the landfill deposits in Lot 10* can be found on pages 129-139 of the 7 Hanover Square site report.
