Swordsman Smoking Pipe Stem and Heel

(ca. 1675)

One circular smoking pipe stem and heel made of white ball clay with a bore hole diameter of 5/64 inches. There is a maker's mark stamped onto the base of the heelcalled the Swordsman (Krijgsman) and depicts the biblical story of David and Goliath. It shows David holding a shield in one hand and a sword in the other. While this pipe’s exact maker is unknown, it was likely manufactured in the Netherlands (Gouda) ca. 1675.
