A red transfer printed whiteware body sherd from a flatware vessel, likely a plate or platter. The central scene features a design likely created by William Adams IV & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire between 1829 and 1861. Their "Cyrene" series featured romantic landscapes that reflected a growing interest in the North African Greek colony of Cyrenaica. Although the maker's mark indicates this plate was part of the Cyrene collection, the design does not match any of the three patterns identified by the Transferware Collectors Club.
