A red transfer printed whiteware rim sherd from a flatware vessel. The border features a design likely created by William Adams IV & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire between 1829 and 1861. Their "Cyrene" series featured romantic landscapes that reflected a growing interest in the North African Greek colony of Cyrenaica. This pattern was also used by J & T. Lockett and George Jones following William Adams IV & Sons' 1861 bankruptcy sale.
