Printed Whiteware Rim Sherd

(1850 - 1861)

A light blue transfer-printed rim sherd from a flatware vessel, likely a large plate. The surface decoration uses a repeating floral and leaf border alternating with starbursts. This rim likely originates from a vessel adorned with a variation of the "Isola Belle" pattern created by William Adams IV & Sons of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire between 1829 and 1861. Meaning "beautiful island" the title probably referred to an area in Lake Maggiore, Italy or Taormina in Sicily.
