A 9.5-inch black transfer printed whiteware plate. The vessel consists of two mended rim sherds. This "Rhone Scenery" design was likely created by T. J. & J. Mayer of Longport, Burslem, Staffordshire between 1842 and 1855. This series depicted Romantic views of the Rhone River, which begins in Switzerland and passes through Lake Geneva and France into the Mediterranean. The rim uses a repeating motif of scrolls, horizontal lines, and both floral and botanical motifs.
