Painted Dutch Majolica Body/Rim Sherd

(1625 - 1675)

One large Dutch majolica body and rim sherd with a light buff body and a colorless lead glaze on its exterior surface. The interior is coated with a white tin glaze with cobalt (blue) painted decoration. The body is generally straight-sided and there are visible turn rings on the exterior, visible through a colorless lead glaze. The tin-glazed interior extends over the top of the everted rim. The interior is decorated with medium and light blue painted streaky horizontal lines and a larger cable-like decoration. The sherd is possibly from a hollowware vessel and is similar to an ointment pot shape but the rim diameter is rather large.
